CT Cardiac Calcium Score Screening Discovers Life-Threatening Blockage

Ron Kanter

As far as Ron knew, he lived a pretty healthy lifestyle and had no reason to be concerned about his heart health at 61 years of age; however, when it was discovered his heart was skipping in combination with the inability to keep his blood pressure in check with medication, Ron's primary care providers had a strong notion that something was wrong.

While Ron thought he would rely on more holistic methods of healing, he agreed to take a CT Cardiac Calcium test to get to the bottom of the concern. The results that came back were completely unexpected.

"It came out as 1360, and that is ridiculously high," says Ron.

This score provided by the CT Cardiac Calcium Score Screening ultimately predicted a 98% percent blockage in Ron's arteries. A cardiac cath procedure confirmed this prediction—revealing an 80 - 95% blockage, including one in the widow maker artery. Ron underwent a quadruple bypass to clear the arteries.

"Without this test, I don't know what would have happened," expresses Ron. "You need to get this test done."

Ron is now recovering from his quadruple bypass surgery and states that he has experienced no pain since the procedure. Overall, he is extremely thankful to the LMHS team for the lifesaving expertise and care they provided him.

"I am still in awe of Lima Memorial's Heart & Vascular Institute," says Ron. And when it comes to the care at Lima Memorial, he shares, "I don't think I've received better care anywhere else."
