Youth ExploringTMProgram
Lima Memorial is committed to helping students learn more about healthcare opportunities available to them and promoting health care as a career choice. As a health career explorers post, our goal is to provide high school students with positive and meaningful, real-world experiences and leadership development opportunities in their healthcare field(s) of interest. We are committed to equipping area youth with leadership and life skills that can be used both today and in the future.

What is Exploring?
ExploringTMexists to teach important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentorship provided by community and business leaders. This program is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. The result is a program of interactive activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow and develop.

Explorers will:

  • Participate in hands-on experiences
  • Network with our associates who work in a healthcare career on a daily basis
  • Learn about the latest technology in health care
  • Learn about the educational requirements for a career in health care
  • Practice leadership skills

Wednesday, November 28 at 7 p.m.

Did you know there are numerous career opportunities available in the Emergency Room setting? We look forward to having you join us for an evening of stimulating and interactive activities, where you will learn how a breathing tube assists patients, perform Hands-Only CPR, learn how to stop bleeds, insert an intraosseous needle into bone, receive a front-row view of our air and mobile transportation vehicles and more. The evening will also include a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at our Emergency Center in action.


Wednesday, January 23 at 7 p.m.

Have you ever dreamed of being a scientist in your own laboratory? Well, now is your chance! Join us for an interactive evening of exploring the profession of a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Engage in a variety of medical laboratory specialties, including pathology, microbiology, molecular biology, chemistry, hematology and blood banking. You will experience hands-on participation and demonstrations in each of these areas. Representatives from Ohio Northern University Medical Laboratory Science Program will be on-site and available to discuss educational planning. If you enjoy the sciences, come see how you can expand your horizons in laboratory medicine.


Friday, March 1 - Time to be determined

Join us for a day of interactive activities that will highlight countless career opportunities throughout our health system. The Career Exploration Day is a great opportunity to gain insight into the diversity of careers available in the exciting medical field in both the clinical and non-clinical settings.


Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m.

Did you know that a pig’s heart is very similar in structure, size and function to a human heart? We invite you to join Dr. Pamela Gardner, Board-Certified Cardiologist, and our cardiac team for an evening of exploring the anatomy of a pig heart through dissection. Multiple dissection stations will be set up to ensure everyone can participate in this educational, hands-on activity. This interactive evening is intended to provide a basic understanding of the anatomy of the heart and educate you on career opportunities within the cardiac and surgical areas of health care.


Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Our therapy team will be hosting an interactive evening at the Wellness Center, located at the Lima Family YMCA, to highlight all aspects of physical and occupational therapy. Students will participate in therapy-driven exercises to gain an understanding of the role therapists have for patients in helping them regain their independence after a stroke, trauma, major injury, illness or surgery. In addition to hands-on demonstrations of balance trainings, rehab professionals will demonstrate therapeutic modality use, have participants engage in an exercise group and more. We look forward to sharing our profession with you and cannot wait to see you there!

Job Shadowing at Lima Memorial

We are excited for your interest in health care and the job shadowing experience at Lima Memorial Health System. We offer numerous opportunities for students to learn about a variety of healthcare careers in clinical and non-clinical settings, as well as allow college students to obtain experiences for degree requirements.

To keep our patients, their families, and you safe, we require all students / adults to have a recent TB Test done within the past year. You can obtain a TB Test at any Lima Memorial Walk-In Clinic, the Health Department, or your family Doctor. Once you have received those results please e-mail them to jobshadow@limamemorial.org
