Lima Memorial Renal Clinic Hosts Patient Empowerment Program

Patient empowerment is a process that helps people gain control over their lives and increases their capacity to act on issues that they themselves define as important. At an event presented by the Lima Memorial Health System Renal Clinic, Dr. G. Allen Bryant, Medical Director of Renal Services, will be discussing chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease, emphasizing the importance of being an invested, confident and engaged patient. “By giving patients better tools to coordinate care and treatment, patients will be better served and see better outcomes,” states Dr. Bryant. Guests attending the program will also have the opportunity to hear inspirational stories from patients who are going through their own journey with chronic kidney disease and learn about the various strategies they use through their process.

An empowered patient understands their health condition and its effect on their body and feels able to participate in decision making with their medical professionals. In addition, empowered patients will better understand how to navigate between the many players in the healthcare system including family, physicians, health insurers, pharmacists, social workers and more. When unsure about where to go or what to do next, the empowered patient will feel confident to ask for the information they need.

The Patient Empowerment Program will take place on Friday, March 22 in the Auxiliary Conference Center on the ground floor of Lima Memorial Health System.
