Medical oncologists specialize in diagnosing and treating cancer with chemotherapy and other therapeutic drugs. Our board-certified medical oncologists are often the leaders of a treatment team helping you before, during and after cancer treatment.
A Medical Oncologist is also a specialist in diagnosing and treating disorders of the blood. Examples of this include iron deficiency, anemia, low platelets and hemochromatosis (too many red blood cells).
Oncology nurses, on the other hand, are experts in chemotherapy administration. Oncology nurses are trained by the Oncology Nursing Society Cancer Chemotherapy / Biotherapy Guidelines. Several Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN) are on staff at Lima Memorial. They not only administer your prescribed treatment, but are also ready to answer any questions you may have and make sure you are getting personal support during treatment.
Lima Memorial Cancer Institute offers these medical oncology and support services:
Throughout the year, Lima Memorial Cancer Institute also reaches out to our community for cancer support and awareness events, such as National Cancer Survivors Day, Go Pink, National Mammography Day, Hope Garden, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and many more.
