Life-Saving Stroke Care and Advanced Follow-Up Detection
Life-Saving Stroke Care and Advanced Follow-Up Detection

What began as an ordinary day for Tim, a Columbus Grove area resident, quickly turned into a stroke emergency that changed everything in an instant. On a drive home, Tim suddenly knew something was wrong. His right leg wasn’t working the way it should, and by the time he reached home, he was struggling to move his arm and couldn’t see clearly out of his right eye.
His wife, Kim, immediately realized he was having symptoms of a stroke and called 9-1-1 right away. Tim was rushed to Lima Memorial Health System, where the stroke team acted quickly to confirm the diagnosis and begin treatment. He received clot-busting medication and began to improve within the first hour.
As his care unfolded that same day, Tim also received an echocardiogram. This advanced imaging gave his care team important insight into how his heart was functioning and helped guide further testing. That next step revealed concerns involving his carotid artery, leading to a clear plan for surgery and continued follow-up care.
Behind that level of speed and clarity is overwhelming community support. Thanks to a $750,000 investment from donors to the Lima Memorial Foundation’s Area of Greatest Need in 2025, Lima Memorial was able to add six new state-of-the-art echocardiography machines to the team. Those tools are now helping care teams, patients and their families get answers faster when every second matters.
“We had fabulous care the whole entire time we were here,” Kim said. “I’m very grateful for how quickly everything happened.”
Today, Tim is continuing his recovery with a strong plan in place for the road ahead. His story is a reminder that life can change in an instant and that having the right care, at the right time, can make a world of difference.
