This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to zoliflodacin.How to Use This Medicine:
Liquid
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
- For patients weighing 50 kilograms (kg) or more: Take this medicine with food.
- For patients weighing 35 kilograms (kg) to less than 50 kg: Take this medicine on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
- Granules for suspension:
- Do not use if the packet or mixing container looks damaged.
- Do not take this medicine in the dry form. Always mix the granules with water before taking. Do not mix with other liquids or sprinkle on food.
- Wash and dry your hands before and after using this medicine.
- Pour 60 milliliters (mL) of drinking water into the container.
- Shake the packet. Carefully cut the packet along the line. Add the entire packet into the mixing container. Turn the lid clockwise to secure onto the mixing container. Shake the container for at least 60 seconds. The mixture should look cloudy. Do not stir or mix it in any other way. Continue shaking until all clumps are gone.
- Turn the lid counter-clockwise to remove it from the mixing container. Drink all of the mixture within 15 minutes of preparing. If it has been more than 15 minutes, do not take the mixture and prepare a new dose.
- Add another 60 mL of water into the container. Shake the mixture and drink it right away to make sure you get the full dose.
- Take all of the medicine in your prescription to clear up your infection, even if you feel better after the first few doses.
- This medicine should come with a Medication Guide. Ask your pharmacist for a copy if you do not have one.
- Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Do not use this medicine together with efavirenz or rifampin.
- Some medicines can affect how zoliflodacin works. Tell your doctor if you are using itraconazole.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- This medicine may cause birth defects if either partner is using it during conception or pregnancy. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. If you are female and able to get pregnant, your doctor may do tests to make sure you are not pregnant before starting this medicine. Males who are taking this medicine with female partners who can become pregnant must use effective birth control during treatment and for at least 3 months after the last dose.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease or liver disease.
- This medicine may decrease sperm count and may be harmful to testicles in some males and may cause infertility (unable to have children). Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you plan to have children.
- This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Bloody or watery diarrhea, stomach pain or cramps, nausea, vomiting
- Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Dizziness, headache
