Comprehensive Care Makes All the Difference 

For Rana, the hallmark of her health journey has been receiving care she could trust, close to home in her own community. Rana’s connection with Lima Memorial began when she started experiencing the warning signs of a stroke. With no feeling on her right side and a determination to get the care she needed, Rana sought help at Lima Memorial. From the moment of her diagnosis, she was surrounded by a compassionate health system that guided her every step of the way.

Rana’s journey with Lima Memorial continued through multiple chapters of care. In 2016, a routine EKG led to life-saving open-heart surgery, followed by a full recovery. Nearly a decade later, a robotic bronchoscopy and 3D cone biopsy revealed Stage 1 non–small cell lung cancer in early in 2025. With her timely treatment and comprehensive care, Rana made one thing clear: “I only want the best.” It was at this time she decided all her care would remain at Lima Memorial.

While the road to better health has been challenging, Rana is grateful for the Lima Memorial team that walks beside her. From heart care with Dr. Venkat Battula and pulmonary care with Dr. Jason Stienecker to guidance from Nancy Hauenstein, her oncology nurse navigator, and care with Dr. Peter Laye, Dr. Richards Afonja and Dr. Nasim Mastouri, she has never felt alone.  

“When I started treatment for the lung cancer, I was asked what I wanted to do regarding my treatment, that it was my body and I could decide what happened next,” she shared. It’s this kind of compassionate, patient-centered care that has made all the difference.
