Lima Memorial Family Birth Center Receives Donation for Safe Sleep

October is recognized as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to honor the lives of little ones gone too soon while also raising awareness about the importance of safe sleep practices for babies. In recognition of this month and families experiencing the unimaginable loss of a child, Lacey Hefner, a beloved associate at Lima Memorial, will donate special sleep sacks to the Lima Memorial Family Birth Center.

Lacey's commitment to supporting families affected by infant loss is a cause close to her heart. In 2016, Lacey and her husband Brian experienced the loss of their infant daughter, Rylee, who passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at just three months and eleven days old. Since that heartbreaking time, Lacey has actively contributed to the hospital and community through Rylee’s Angels, a group created in Rylee’s memory dedicated to donating toys, blankets and other comfort items for families in need.

This year, Lacey and her family’s donation of more than 70 safe sleep sacks promotes essential safe sleep practices and serves as a heartfelt tribute to Rylee. Lacey hopes that her efforts will help prevent future tragedies related to SIDS.

“Our goal has always been to turn our grief into something meaningful that honors Rylee and keeps her memory alive,” shared Lacey. “By donating these sleep sacks in her name, we hope to raise awareness about safe sleep and help prevent another family from experiencing the heartbreak of losing a child.”
