Lima Memorial Presents Lima Municipal Court with AED

Lima Memorial Health System is presenting the Lima Municipal Court with an automatic external defibrillator (AED) to be placed inside the Lima Municipal Court building. An AED is a medical device that can help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The device delivers an electrical shock (defibrillation) so the heart can regain its rhythm. AEDs are located within the majority of offices and public buildings, and learning to use one is critical to saving someone’s life during cardiac arrest.

“We cannot stress enough the importance of having easy access to an AED and knowing how to use it,” says Doug LaRue, EMS Manager at Lima Memorial Health System. “Learning how to use an AED in conjunction with CPR can be the difference between life and death for someone during sudden cardiac arrest.”

According to the American Red Cross, sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States; while you should always seek the help of medical professionals for a cardiac event, it is critical to administer CPR and use an AED quickly, as the odds of survival decrease with each minute that passes.

“We are grateful to Lima Memorial for their support in providing an AED to the Lima Municipal Court,” expresses Lisa Deters, CCM, Court Administrator at the Lima Municipal Court. “This is one of the best steps we can take to ensure we do all we can to save someone’s life in the event of cardiac arrest.”

Along with providing the AED in the Lima Municipal Court building, the Lima Memorial team will also provide training and education to the court staff regarding early heart attack care, use / maintenance of the AED and hands-only CPR.
