Hospice Care

What is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is a compassionate medical approach that helps patients spend their last days in comfort while honoring their independent decisions with dignity and caring for their physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.

Lima Memorial offers inpatient hospice care in partnership with Putnam County Hospice. Lima Memorial associates and Putnam County Hospice professionals work together to provide our patients with services such as pain and symptom management to relieve end-of-life-suffering. The hospital staff ensures our patients’ primary care needs are met, while a hospice nurse visits daily to help ease symptoms and provide support. Family members are encouraged to be actively involved in their loved one's care.

Why Choose Hospice Care?

Patients and family members should consider hospice care when a physical cure is no longer possible. Lima Memorial offers the choice of hospice care when:

  • A patient is in the hospital and cannot be safely discharged.
  • Returning home is not possible.
  • Symptoms cannot be managed effectively at home.

A hospice stay is typically brief - days, not weeks. It is a time of personal freedom and the ability to make independent decisions. It is also a time to affirm and celebrate life fully, every day, with our patients as alert, comfortable and pain-free as possible. Emotional, physical, spiritual and social support is provided to the patient--as well as the family--throughout the entire hospice process.
