A therapist helping a patient maintain balance

Balance Center

Balance Center

As part of the Speech and Audiology Department, Lima Memorial Balance Center uses a team approach to identify and treat people suffering from dizziness or experiencing problems with balance. We work closely with the patient's referring physician to test for different causes and offer recommendations about whether the patient should enter our vestibular rehabilitation or balance retraining program.

The Balance Center team includes an audiologist, physical therapist and occupational therapist, who assess patients with comprehensive tests, study their balance and other physical skills, and work with their doctors to develop and implement treatment plans.

Common Symptoms of Balance Problems

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may have a balance issue that could be corrected at the Lima Memorial Balance Center.

  • Dizziness
  • Feeling off-balance
  • Spinning sensations (that either the room is spinning or you are spinning)
  • Sensing "after-motion" when you make quick head movements
  • Trouble walking in the dark

If any of these symptoms are common occurrences for you, talk to your doctor, who can give you a referral for testing or treatment at the Balance Center.

Call 419-226-5070 for information. To schedule an appointment, first fax your doctor's order forms to Lima Memorial Audiology at 419-998-4548.
