Surgical Options for Patients with Cancer

For many patients with cancer, surgery is an essential part of their care. It can help physicians diagnose and stage the disease, treat it, alleviate symptoms and prevent the spread of the disease. At Midwest Surgical Specialists our surgical oncologist collaborates with medical and radiation oncologists to prepare and deliver the most effective care for each patient.

Our specialty team focuses on the removal of all types of cancerous tumors, both malignant and benign. In most cases these excisions can be completed in a minimally invasive manner. The surgical oncologist at Midwest Surgical Specialists offers a wide array of both specialty and common procedures. Specialty procedures include:

Removal of the end of the pancreas to treat pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic pseudocysts and injury.

Liver resection

Removal of a portion of the liver to remove various types of tumors while keeping as much of the liver intact as possible.

Removal of the duodenum, gallbladder, head of the pancreas, bile duct and sometimes the lower portion of the stomach.
