How to Make a Fabric Mask

As we have resumed services, the health and safety of our patients, their families, our associates and community are our top priorities. As a means of protection and in accordance with recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and the State of Ohio, we have adopted a universal masking policy. Anyone entering a Lima Memorial facility must wear a cloth mask. If an individual does not have a mask upon arrival, a cloth mask will be issued at the point of entry into the health system or at registration for off-site facilities. As such, the need for fabric facemasks is still important, and we continue to seek volunteers to sew fabric facemasks and support this need.

Details about making fabric masks:

If you are able to sew and willing to help, we thank you for sharing your time and skills with our community’s healthcare workers. Please note the following before getting started:

  • Use 100% cotton tightly woven fabric and 100% cotton thread
  • Non-smoking homes only, please
  • Please remember that both men and women will be using these masks
  • Waterproof fabric is not required (but if you have it feel free to use it)
  • Cloth ties can be used instead of elastic
  • Any surplus masks will be distributed to local organizations in need

We greatly appreciate our community’s response to supporting the unique healthcare needs of our community during this time. Please continue to share your photos on social media, and tag Lima Memorial Health System using the hashtag #greatcare.
