Nursery

Highly trained newborn and pediatric medical professionals are available for newborn babies at the Family Birth Center. A special care team, which includes high-risk nursery nurses with advanced newborn skills and a respiratory therapist, is present at every delivery to anticipate the needs of all newborns. And, a Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant is always available for moms choosing to nurse. In addition, LMHS also has in-house, 24-hour obstetric anesthesia coverage. An in-house newborn and pediatric group, comprised of Drs. John Liggett, Vincente Romero and Magdalino Tatad of New Century Pediatrics, is available for babies that may require extra care.

Level II Nursery Coming Soon

At Lima Memorial, most babies are born healthy and full term. However, there are occasions when newborns need extra-special attention. A Level II Nursery is a highly specialized unit providing treatment to neonates requiring critical attention. The unit’s equipment and supplies are geared toward the needs of these infants and the staff is specially trained.

With a Special Care Nursery, Lima Memorial Health System will be able to deliver high risk, premature babies, and will be able to contribute to a new level of care to the moderately ill child. This advanced care will allow us to not only stabilize, but maintain treatment for the longer term. Mother and child will be able to stay together while the newborn gets stronger and healthier. This new designation means Lima Memorial’s facility will be equipped to care for complications that a newborn might face.

The facility is being planned and will be affiliated with Children’s Hospital of Toledo. Lima Memorial already meets most of the criteria for a Level II birthing center.
