LMHS Donates Surgery to African Boy with Birth Defect

In conjunction with Children’s Medical Missions West (CMM West), Lima Memorial and local physicians are donating their resources to a two-year-old African boy so he can get the life-changing surgery he needs to correct a birth defect which left him with club feet.

Karim Ouedraogo, (O-dra-go) from Burkina Foso, Africa, was born with two club feet, turned in and under. He arrived in Ohio on Memorial Day, and has been under the care of Dr. Darryl M. Haycock, podiatrist, and Dr. Kha H. Tran, family physician. Both physicians have donated Ouedraogo’s care while he is in the U.S.

For several weeks, Ouedraogo was fitted with casts on his feet to help prepare him for surgery. He underwent surgery at Lima Memorial in September 2007, to put pins into the bones of his feet. After the pins and frames are removed, he will undergo therapy and then will return home with a brace that will need to be worn for several years. While in the U.S., Ouedraogo is staying with LMHS registered nurse, Jessica Compton, and her family.
