The Comprehensive Breast Care Program is the only one of its
kind in the 10-county area which utilizes a multidisciplinary team
of surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists,
pathologists, mammographers, registered nurses and cancer registrar
to review every diagnosis of breast cancer.
This program educates breast cancer patients diagnosed at Lima
Memorial on their specific type of cancer and the latest treatment
and plastic surgery options available to them. Individuals
are informed of support groups, how to consult health insurance
plans, question to ask physicians and more. Lima Memorial
will also help in the coordination of patient appointments.
The more education a patient receives the better prepared he
or she is to face this life altering disease with courage and
confidence.
The Inpatient Setting is often the first place a patient hears
of his or her diagnosis. Our staff is trained in oncology
care and has many years of experience in the surgical
setting. This expertise is valuable in assisting the patient
through surgery and any follow up care needed when a patient is
readmitted to the hospital. The Outpatient Treatment Unit and
Home Health Departments are also trained in the special needs of
the oncology patient.
Registered Dietitians guide individuals through various eating
plans to ensure adequate nutrition and palatable foods specific to
cancer patients. Financial Services, Social Services and
Pastoral Care are also available to patients and family
members.
The Cancer Institute staff coordinates healthcare appointments
and offers the CancerHelp touch screen computer system and the
American Cancer Society Resource Center.
