Diagnosing cancer is a process that has rapidly improved in
recent years due to advancing technology. Various procedures may be
utilized to diagnose each specific type of cancer. Some
include:
- MRI
- PET/CT Scan
- Various forms of biopsies
- Mammography
Lima Memorial has continually strived to provide the latest
technology in order to diagnose cancers sooner so that treatment
may begin as early as possible.
Lima Memorial was the first in the nation to install the
SecondLook CADx System which provides a second set of "eyes" in
detecting possible breast cancers on either film screen or digital
mammography. We continue to work with this company to develop CAD
technology.
PET/CT is also a valuable tool in diagnosing cancer. This
state-of-the-art technology, which combines a PET scan with a CT
scan, is only available at Lima Memorial Patients experience
increased comfort with a 55 percent reduction in scan time. In
addition, patients no longer need to drink a prep solution prior to
receiving the scan.
PET/CT is approved for many types of cancer, including breast,
colorectal, esophageal, head and neck, lung, lymphoma and melanoma.
PET/CT is also used in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease and in
cardiology for myocardial viability.
